The 9 Tenets of Health

First – the good news!

You can do something to improve your health and prevent the most common diseases associated with lifestyle.

Second – the not so fabulous news! Some statistics.

Modern life health is continuing to deteriorate at a rather worrying rate. The incidence of chronic and degenerative disease is increasing, despite supposed mainstream health measures to reduce them.

  • Diabetes is rapidly increasing with almost 5% of Australians affected (1). Sadly with an increasing percentage of children being diagnosed
  • Obesity is on the increase too, which often goes hand in hand with diabetes. A whopping 67% of Australians over the age of 18 are overweight (2)
  • One in 3 Australian adults have high blood pressure putting them at a greater risk for stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease (3)
  • Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the leading cause of disease burden and death in Australia with 17, 5000 deaths per year attributed to CHD (4)
  • Mental Health disorders now affect 1 in 2 Australians. That is 46% (5)
  • Declining fertility rates now mean that 1 in 6 Australian couples have trouble conceiving (6)
  • About 400, 000 Australians are living with dementia (7)

The health of Australians is getting worse…not better. Just how well has the conventional approach of lowering fats and pushing carbohydrates worked to manage diabetes, obesity, and CHD? It appears, not well at all!

Yet all these modern diseases share an obvious common contributor…our modern lifestyle of nutrient deficient foods, stress, lack of movement, poor sleep, and daily exposure to toxins.

Treating the symptoms and not addressing the underlying issues is a band aid approach that ignores the root cause of disease. The Naturopathic approach to health and wellbeing has always been to get to the root cause of illness and work to correct the causes. This means we must make some changes…and not everyone is up for an adjustment of lifestyle! Are you?

Let’s look at the fundamentals of Good Health…
